The Smiler is a brand new ride at the Alton Towers Resort, it is the world record holder for most inversions on a roller coaster and opened in May 2013.

The smiler was due to open in March 2013 but after technical delays, opening day was pushed forward a couple of months for work. The 24th of May came and enthusiasts from all over the world piled into Alton Towers only to find that it was shut. Many people were disappointed with the delays but June was coming and Alton Towers promised that it would be completed by the end of May. They were not lying though, May 31st and The Smiler opened in all it's glory filling up to 3 hours of queuing which showed full popularity. Media and advertisements were everywhere and the smiler was underway, it was officially open! In recent weeks the smiler has broken down a few times but only for a day every time.
